Soundproof
I love the picture I chose for today.
It's a tranquil scene of a soundproofed room.
I want to go into that room and hang out for a while whilst wearing my invisible straight jacket.
I don't know about you, but I sure could use some peace and quiet.
All the sounds inside our heads and in the world around us can be a bit too much, can they not?
Social media - comparing, contrasting, desiring, despairing, deceiving
News - confusing, frightening, shocking, horrifying
To-Dos - inspiring, overwhelming, never-ending, procrastinating
To Donts - disciplining, trying, failing
Shoulds - aspiring, fantasizing
Shouldn't Haves - regretting, crushing, shaming
What a cheery list, I know.
But for most of us, those sounds and the emotions they trigger swirl as we overload our minds.
Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
Come on into this soundproofed sanctuary and hang out with me for a while.
Put on some noise-cancelling headphones and pop a squat one of the comfy chairs over in the corner.
Feel free to use one of the blankets in the basket - they are extra warm and cozy.
Rest.
Let the quiet in.
Let it soothe you.
No words.
No music.
No racing thoughts.
Just quiet.
This is the restoration room God soundproofed, just for us.
It's our safe place where we can get away from it all.
Just be in the quiet.
You can hang out here as long as you need.
I'm going to shut up now so you can relax.
Enjoy!
Psalm 62:5
Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from him.
Isaiah 32: 17-18
The fruit of that righteousness will be peace; its effect will be quietness and confidence forever. My people will live in peaceful dwelling places,
in secure homes, in undisturbed places of rest.
Psalm 4:8
In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, Lord , make me dwell in safety.
