Break Free

You deserve a break.

Isn't that a wonderful sentiment? It's a notion filled with empathy and understanding, probably written by a well-worn warrior who understands the importance of getting away from it all.

What kind of break do you need?

Perhaps it's removing yourself from some activities and responsibilities and living a less-is-more life. Saying no is a real freedom cry.

It may be breaking ties with people who do not treat you as they should. Saying goodbye to them is tricky, but freedom comes from teaching people how to treat you and sticking to those lessons.

Perhaps it's stopping - once and for all—habits and patterns that harm your precious mind and body. Think of all the free time you would have if you weren't wasting time scrolling or binging. How happy and proud would you be if you weren't beating yourself up every day for overindulging the day before?

Could you give your mind a break and choose not to stir yourself up by worrying and overthinking about people or situations you have no control over? Think of all the free time you would have in your mind. No doubt you could finally figure out cures to diseases or find world peace (God knows we need that).

Or maybe you need a real break from it ALL and would like a one-way trip to an all-inclusive, deserted island. I don't know how an all-inclusive place could be deserted, but hey, we are dreaming here.

If you picked the last option, let me know, I can connect you to a great travel agent.

Whatever is holding you back or wearing you down, consider giving yourself a break and taking it easy for a while.

Even though there was no internet or social media back in Jesus' day, humans still felt worn out.

Jesus taught us the importance of rest, reflection, and having firm boundaries. Unless I missed something, there aren't any scriptures that said:

"And then Jesus freaked out and spent the night worse-case-scenarioing with the disciples."

or

"And then Jesus took the wine and drank it all himself, leaving none for the wedding party."

or

"And then Jesus decided to keep doing carpentry along with numerous volunteer jobs in addition to his ministry."

or

"And then, Jesus stayed in one town, trying to fix everyone and everything."

Nope.

Jesus knew He had a world-altering purpose and had to stay very close to God, and take frequent breaks to maintain His peace and energy to accomplish the things He was sent to do.

How about we learn from Jesus and give ourselves a break today?

Who's ready to shout a loud freedom cry?

Let's GOOOOOOOOOO!

Matthew 11: 28-30

Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

Exodus 33:14

And he said, My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest.

Psalm 23: 1-2

The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: He leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul.
