Harmony

Allow me to introduce you to an oldie but goodie little ditty that I would sing with the voices in my head.

We called ourselves the Choir of Confusion.

The quintet you are about to hear is pretty pitchy, so don't say I didn't warn you.

Take a listen.

Me: Man, it sure feels good to be on this journey and rid myself of junk that no longer serves me.

Sopranos of Sin: "Yeah, I guess. I'm kinda bored, though. You sure you don't wanna try it again, just for old times sake? I mean come on, it's no big deal. It will feel so much better if we ate that, drank that, said that, did that." Keeps singing...

Me: I feel peace knowing God loves me just as I am and that, in His eyes, I am enough. I don't need anything else. I don't need to be more than I am.

Alto of Attainment and Ambition: "I dunno. Look at them! They got some cool stuff. Shouldn't we get some of that? I bet we'd be happier if we did. And I mean, what are we doing with our life anyway? Everyone else is crushing it. We should worry if we are doing what we are supposed to be doing and fret about the future."  Keeps singing...

Me: I feel so much better relying on God and trusting that with His love and protection, everything will be okay.

Tenor of Terror: "Please. Who you fooling? There is so much to worry about. What about the kids? What about all these health issues people are having? What about all the people hurting? What about all those we've lost? What about all those problems we got that haven't been solved? What about the economy? What about politics? What about world peace? How can you not be filled with dread?"  Keeps singing...

Me: "God has rescued me from the mucky pit and redeemed me so I can help others be free."

Bass of Brokenness: "Who are you fooling? You still got a lot of baggage girl. Others are far more qualified. I highly doubt God can use someone as broken as you. You better keep your head down, stay quiet, and focus on fixing yourself." Keeps singing...

What a crappy song, am I right? It's so loud and incredibly out of tune. Unfortunately, ear plugs only make it worse.

When I write all this down, it seems so ridiculous that someone can think all of that inside their head, often simultaneously.

I know some of you have the same kind of song playing in your head.

You. Are. Not. Alone.

It's a wonder we can get anything else done with all that dissonance doo-wopping in our noggins.

Enough of that noise.

Let's tear up those lyrics, break up the band (or choir in my case), and write a new song.

This time, it's going to be a duet.

It's just us and God.

The song we sing with God is the most beautiful harmony we will ever hear.

God is singing over us, telling us of His love, forgiveness, acceptance, and mercy. It's the most beautiful voice we have ever heard. The words fill our hearts with such joy we can't help but dance.

Slowly, we gather the courage to sing along.

Our voices blend perfectly with God's, which makes sense since He created us to be in beautiful harmony with Him.

We fall to our knees as we cry out in song and try to describe how overwhelmed we are by God's amazing love and grace.

So, whenever that old choir tries to get back on stage, let’s belt out that duet as loud as possible and focus our ears on the part God is singing so we can harmonize with Him.

We should probably set up daily practice sessions to ensure we've memorized all the words and notes so we are ready at a moment's notice when those jerks try to get the choir back together.

Not a chance, dudes.

No way.

We like our new gig way better.

Colossians 3:16

Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts.

Zephaniah 3:17

The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.

1 Chronicles 16:9

Sing to him, sing praise to him; tell of all his wonderful acts.
