Reflecting Light
As you prepare for your day today, I want you to stop for a moment as you look in the mirror.
Look at that beautiful face God made reflecting back at you.
The rays of light emanating from your essence bounce off the mirror and show themselves back to you so brightly.
You may be tempted to look at your reflection and only see what you think are flaws - the wrinkles, the scars, the spots, or the sags.
You begin the top-to-bottom critique and feel the pull to start your regimen of covering up, filling in, extending, plumping, or whatever is necessary to present the image you want to show the world.
Put the putty down for a second.
I want you to stop for a moment and say the following thing to your reflection:
"I see you."
I want you to imagine God standing with you while you look at your reflection.
Who does God see when He looks at you?
God sees the light of His love in your reflection.
God sees His creation - in all its perfection. Yes, I said perfection: "flaws" and all.
God sees someone who he has redeemed and saved.
Allow God to speak whatever words you need to hear this morning.
You are loved.
You are enough.
You are worthy.
Keep going...
Look beyond the surface of what you see and let His words sink into your soul today and replace the feelings of inadequacy or lack that have been pulling you down.
Give yourself a big hug and imagine God squeezing you tightly as he beams with pride for his precious one - YOU!
Wow, what a way to start the day, huh?
How grateful are we to have a God that loves us so much?
As you go out into the world, I want you to remember the image you saw today.
Reflect all the love and light you received onto those you interact with.
Imagine God walking beside you and showing you how He sees those you see.
Let the gratitude that fills your heart for all God has done for you pour out of you like rays of light.
Let the light of God's love shine so brightly that it emanates out of your mouth, your fingertips, and your eyeballs.
Is that creepy? Maybe. But the world needs that kind of creepy right now.
I'll leave you with this last thought as you finish getting ready for the day.
Let God's love and light be all the filler and pumping up you need to see you the way God sees you and to make others feel seen and loved today.
Thank You, God, for this beautiful life you have given us.
Psalm 139: 13-14
For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.
1 John 4: 7
Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.
Romans 8: 37-39
No, in all these things, we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
