Compassion
Something so beautiful happens when someone steps into your life and helps you with no expectations.
They see you struggling, and they want to make it better.
It's as simple as that.
Some people have a sixth sense when this kind of caring support is needed and are intuitively aware when someone might need a helping hand.
These helpers are hard-wired with compassion.
The definition of compassion is so beautiful - sympathetic consciousness of another's distress together with a desire to alleviate it.
How lovely is that?
I couldn't help but think of Jesus when I read that definition.
I thought of all He did to reach people that everyone else turned away and how He desired to alleviate their suffering.
He was compassionate and stepped right into the pain and sorrow, intending to alleviate the suffering of those He loved.
Jesus was not and is not afraid to answer the distress call.
We are grateful when our distress call is answered with compassion and empathy.
No pity, no judgment, just someone to come alongside us and help alleviate our pain.
I want to be filled with that kind of compassion—not just for others but also for myself.
We are so kind to others, but so hard on ourselves.
Well, not today.
Let's be extra compassionate to ourselves today, shall we?
Don't be so hard on yourself. Be kind to YOU and treat yourself with compassion and understanding, just like God.
And while we are at it, let's be grateful for all the compassion shown to us.
By Jesus.
By our family.
By our friends.
By strangers.
By us.
Let's stay in tune with that Jesus-inspired intuition and look for ways to answer the distress call and bring much-needed compassion to the world.
Thank You, God, for this beautiful life you have given us.
Psalm 136:26
Give thanks to the God of heaven, for His lovingkindness (graciousness, mercy, compassion) endures forever.
Ephesians 5: 15-20
Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord's will is. Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Colossians 3: 12-14
Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.
