Enough Yeah-Buting
Let the joy of this moment, just as it is, be enough today.
Even if it's not exactly what we want.
Even if it's not perfect.
But, (see what I did there?) that’s easy to say and hard to do.
We often find ourselves restless and addicted to discontentment.
God could literally shout from the heavens to us right this minute and say,
"My child, you are exactly where you are meant to be,"
and we would respond with,
"Yeah, but I really wish I was over there." or "I really wish something better was happening."
I swear I can see God's eyes rolling at me when I do this (which is far too often if I must confess).
Probably the same way I do with my kids when they aren’t grateful for the gifts bestowed upon them.
Yikes, that’s convicting isn’t it?
Right this minute, let's agree to stop yeah-buting, and be grateful for where we are and what we have.
Even in the painful, awkward, uncertain, funky moments.
Let us trust the process as we fill with gratitude and appreciation for where we are and what we have.
I wrote this little poem when my kids were little to help them get through times of restlessness or anxiety. Its simple truth still rings true.
"Don't worry about what's happening next; enjoy what's happening now.
Don't worry about what might happen; trust God, He's in control anyhow."
1 Thessalonians 5:18
Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
Psalms 63:4
I will praise you as long as I live, and in your name I will lift up my hands.
Job 7:4 NIV
When I lie down I think, ‘How long before I get up?’ The night drags on, and I toss and turn until dawn.
