Fork In the Road
I see you.
You are at that critical moment of the proverbial fork in the road.
You've been standing there for a while, moss growing around your pretty toesies, staring at the two paths before you.
I'm not talking about choosing between the shows you're binging on tonight or the restaurant you're ordering from for dinner.
I'm talking about the big stuff here.
I know you know what I mean.
The bummer about these moments is that you can only see so far ahead. You can't be totally sure where each path will lead. You won't know until you start walking.
That uncertainty has you stuck.
You've been standing there for a while as that green fuzz grows around you while you blow up your friend's phones as you contemplate your next move.
You resort to your well-trained overthinking and worse-case-scenario-ing and spend hours and hours noodling it out.
Maybe this will happen...or maybe that...or probably that. Or maybe even that.
What if I go there and this happens? What if I go there and nothing happens? Or, worse yet, what if I go that way and something terrible happens?
The voices in your head are all clamoring for their power to guide your decision. Between them, the 4,253 people you have contacted and the countless articles you have read from your “what path should I take” internet search, it's really noisy, and you're more confused than ever.
I can see God standing beside you, and I imagine Him pulling you close to Him as He puts His fatherly arm around you and yells, "EVERYBODY QUIET!"
Ahhhh, that's better.
As you consider the choice ahead, close your eyes and listen to God's voice and the discernment within.
Get real quiet.
You
Know
What
To
Do
That path over there - the one that feels peaceful and hopeful, not fearful or desperate.
That's the one you want.
Slowly now, take one step forward.
There you go!
Just one more.
And another.
And another.
The next thing you know, you are walking, skipping, jogging, running, and sprinting on your way.
I know what you are thinking.
You are thinking, "What if I make the wrong choice?"
Then you choose again!
With God right by your side.
And again.
And again.
And each time you choose your path forward, your ability to trust God and yourself grows.
This journey is full of forks, my friend.
Don't let the moss grow too thick when you stand before them.
Time is ticking, and the sun is fading.
The moment for action is now.
God has found you, and He is never, EVER going to let you go.
Proverbs 4: 25-26
Let your eyes look straight ahead; fix your gaze directly before you.
Give careful thought to the paths for your feet and be steadfast in all your ways.
Job 12:13
To God belong wisdom and power; counsel and understanding are his.
Proverbs 4: 10-14
Listen, my son, accept what I say, and the years of your life will be many.
I instruct you in the way of wisdom and lead you along straight paths.
When you walk, your steps will not be hampered; when you run, you will not stumble.
Hold on to instruction; do not let it go; guard it well, for it is your life.
Do not set foot on the path of the wicked or walk in the way of evildoers. Avoid it, do not travel on it; turn from it and go on your way.
