Free to Decide

I had to have a good talk with myself this morning (who am I kidding? I need to do that every day!).

As the day began, my mind started its negative catastrophizing routine.

It's a cheery way to start the day, I know.

It's like there is a calamity checklist that I subconsciously start going through in my mind - family drama, personal frustrations, work annoyances, world problems, etc.

Most of which, by the way, I have zero control over.

In my covered-up, gray-haired years, I am finally getting into the habit of noticing my thoughts more.

It's pretty shocking when you really pay attention.

When I find myself choosing to contemplate the uncontrollable or ponder the perilous perspective of things, I have to snap myself out of it.

I am in charge of my mind; therefore, I get to decide what I think about.

Sure, there is stuff to worry about. We could hop on a call and one-up each other on who has the most drama to validate our thoughts of worry and fear.

But aren't we just tired of that? Where does it get us?

I am removing the recurring, all-day appointment of whining, worrying, catastrophizing, complaining, and worse-case scenario-ing from my calendar.

Oh - look at that free time!

Time is precious, and it's whizzing by.

We spend a lot of time thinking, and we have the freedom to decide what to think about.

I just put a new all-day recurring appointment on the calendar. It's called "Triple GI."

Grateful

God's

Got

It

  • I'm grateful God has forgiven and loved me despite my nonsense.

  • I'm so grateful God has gotten me this far and freed me from so much pain and sorrow.

  • I'm grateful for my family and friends. I'm living a life I could have never dreamed of.

  • I'm grateful for the challenges I'm facing as they strengthen me and show me God's grace and power.

  • I'm grateful for God's wisdom in leading me and His never-ending patience as I follow Him slowly but surely.

  • I'm grateful for air conditioning, ceiling fans, and whoever invented ice cubes (calling all my menopausal mamas out there - you feelin' me?).

  • I am grateful for the freedom to think and change my thoughts to align with the goodness of God.

  • I'm grateful God has a plan for me and everything on my list.

I feel better already.

You are free to choose and decide what to think about today.

What appointments do you need to take off or put on your calendar?

What's it gonna be?

You ready to decide?

Let's GOOOOOOOOOO!

1 Thessalonians 5: 16-18

Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

Psalm 139: 23-24

Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

1 Timothy 1:15-17

Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners—of whom I am the worst. But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his immense patience as an example for those who would believe in him and receive eternal life. Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.
