Humble Brag
All over social media, you will see posts of people promoting their accomplishments or accolades, usually preceded by a statement that goes something like, "I'm so humbled and honored to (insert brag)."
Do I sometimes get a sour taste in my mouth when I see constant self-promotion and boasting? Sometimes.
Could I be a bit jealous of the facade of fabulousness I see? Probably.
But hey, I get it.
I appreciate being proud of our hard work, attaining goals, and sharing exciting news with the world.
When you think of how far we have come on our journey together, we sure have a lot to brag about.
We have worked hard, and our egos tell us that we, too, deserve some praise and attaboys.
But, if we are being honest, the praise and honor shouldn't be aimed in our direction.
Without God's rescue and unconditional love, we'd probably be right back where we were.
Without Jesus's sacrifice and willingness to take on the consequences of our poor choices, we would not be living these free and redeemed lives.
Without God's wisdom, guidance, and protection, we would have fallen prey to the lies of the enemy, who never stops trying to distract and destroy us.
So, honestly, I do feel humbled.
I do not deserve everything God did and does to save and redeem me.
And I could brag about that all day.
I keep thinking about something I wrote a couple of weeks ago where I said that the last words I would like to utter before I leave this Earth are: "Look at what God did."
I hope I go on and on about how God showed love and kindness to the world around me.
I hope to talk about how God demonstrated how He cares for the hurting, sees the lost, finds the forgotten, forgives the broken, and loves the unlovable.
I hope to recall all the people God loved and redeemed and how their lives changed the world.
I hope to humbly share the countless miracles I witnessed by trying to live out those examples in my actions in the years I have on this Earth.
God deserves all the bragging rights.
I am just humbled to be here and experience this life He has given me.
I don't want to waste another moment focusing on the distractions that pull me into insecurity or any other security that isn't reliant upon God.
God doesn't need social media posts or a certain number of followers. I don't need to tag Him and ensure He gets the glory.
God wants his children to return to Him and follow where He leads.
God is behind the scenes in the listening ear, the confidential conversations, the silent service, the unwavering support, and the random acts of kindness.
Just look around. Did you see that?
Look at what God did!
Isaiah 44:22
I have swept away your offenses like a cloud, your sins like the morning mist. Return to me, for I have redeemed you."
Psalm 107: 1-2
O give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; for His compassion and loving-kindness endure forever! Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, whom He has redeemed from the hand of the adversary,
1 Corinthians 1: 30-31
It is because of Him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness, and redemption. Therefore, as it is written: "Let the one who boasts boast in the Lord."
