Look Ahead
Sometimes, I wish I had the foresight not to make some of my previous choices so that I wouldn't have had to learn from hindsight.
You may need to read that again; I did.
You've probably heard the saying, "Hindsight is 20/20".
I never really thought about what 20/20 vision means. I know it means you have "perfect" vision, but I never really thought about what the criteria was to attain said perfection.
20/20 vision means that you can see things clearly from 20 feet away. Really? That's it? In other places around the world, it's called 6/6 vision because many countries use meters instead of feet,
I am literally this old learning this valuable information.
I'm not sure who decided that 20 feet or 6 meters are about how far someone needs to see, but I guess it's something we've all agreed upon globally.
So, if hindsight is 20/20, I guess that means it just takes 20 feet to look back and gain some ethereal wisdom.
I wish I could learn things that quickly!
The lessons I've learned in hindsight should probably be measured in mistakes/years, not distance.
It's probably likely I have 10/10 vision. It takes me about 10 years of making the same mistake 10 times until I learn.
Hey, at least I'm consistent.
I'm curious: does foresight have the same kind of measurement?
Wouldn't it be great to look 20 feet ahead and know exactly what will happen so you can determine the right choice?
Alas, it doesn't work that way.
Standing still, what-if-ing, and trying to predict the future is an illusion of control, resulting in minimal accuracy and wasted time.
But what we can do is think about what might happen as we contemplate our next decision.
If I say yes to this temptation, what might the consequences be? Is this another one of the 10 mistakes I will look back on in hindsight with regret?
If I follow God and do this thing that scares me, will I feel pride and joy when I look back at my choice?
Will this decision help me go forward or push me backward?
We've spent a lot of time looking back in hindsight, and while we have gained some wisdom, it is time for us to keep our eyes forward and look ahead.
As redeemed children of God, we get to move forward and look ahead, trusting that God's foresight will get us where we need to go.
I know it seems blurry. You can't see the path ahead, and not knowing what might happen is unnerving.
But God's vision is perfect. 20 feet ain't nothing for Him.
He can see beyond what we can and is leading us into something more beautiful than anything our eyes have ever seen before.
Keep looking ahead and following God on this journey.
Let's keep going.
There is so much more to see!
Ephesians 2:10
For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
Psalm 147:5
Great is our Lord and mighty in power; his understanding has no limit.
Galatians 6: 7-9
Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.
