Love Does Not Boast

I have a friend who embodies what it means to be a humble servant.

Rarely will you see him self-promote on social media; if he does, it's only to highlight the extraordinary work being done by others.

He could be like so many of us, leaning into our vanity, exaggerating the positive parts of our lives with veiled pride as we "humbly" brag about our accomplishments or accolades.

But you won't find my friend doing that. You will find him quietly serving others, pouring through his database to see who needs a helping hand or support. His eyes are always searching for those he can serve. No bravado needed.

He serves quietly and without expectation of reward or attention. He puts others ahead of himself and loves and cares for them with stealth secrecy.

Jesus loved this way as well. He quietly went about the world and performed miracles and healings, often asking those He blessed not to share what happened.

That is miraculous if you think about Jesus - the Son of God - showing us the what power there is in meekness and modesty.

We can choose to walk in humility, searching for ways to love and serve others with no thoughts of reward or adoration.

We can think of how to love others versus focusing on what they can do for us.

Above all, we could praise and thank God for all He has bestowed upon us in this life instead of patting ourselves on the back as we shout our own praises.

Let's be like my friend, only boasting only about the love of God as he walks in humility and service.

God loves you, and so do I!

1 Peter 5:6

Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.

Philippians 2:3

Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves,

James 4:10

Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.

1 Corinthians 13:4

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
