Plenty

Buy in bulk. Buy two, get one free. Buy one, get one. All you can eat.

We live in a culture of excess; but unfortunately, no matter how much we partake, we are still left unsatisfied.

Wake up from this spell you are under! I’m right there with you, believe me!

You have had plenty.

Eating more, drinking more, or buying more will not fill you. Trust me, I have tried (well, I still am, if I'm being honest).

When you have had plenty, there is no further satisfaction beyond that state of enough.

What if when the next craving comes to buy or binge, you take a moment to pause before and connect with your mind and spirit?

  • Are you really hungry?

  • Are you really thirsty?

  • Do you really need that?

If you find yourself answering no, but are still feeling insatiable, ask yourself what emotion you are trying to soothe.

You can pick an emotion; no doubt I have tried to eat, drink, or buy my way out.

But it doesn't work, does it?

Next time the urges come, take a pause before the purchase or partaking and ask God to show you what you are trying to comfort, fix, or muffle. Slow down and take some breaths.

Remind yourself:

  • I have plenty

  • I have had plenty enough

  • I am grateful for what I have

  • I can manage this without numbing, distracting or stuffing myself

  • My body is a temple, and I want to eat and drink in plenty, not excess.

Talk to God about what is troubling you or what you are trying to soothe. He can ease your mind and comfort you, which will be plenty enough. I promise you that.

1 Corinthians 6:19

Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own.

Psalms 48:9

Within your temple, O God, we meditate on your unfailing love.
