Take the Limits Off

I have another perspective to offer today as we contemplate what it means to be free.

We've been focusing on our freedom, but something occurred to me.

Perhaps we need to set God free and take the limits off all that He can do.

We talk about God's power, unending love, and ability to rescue us from our mucky pit.

But do we really believe it?

Or do we, in our moments of worry, control, and fear, inadvertently block His power?

Sometimes, I think I lock God up in a cage and run around with my hair on fire, trying to fix and control everything myself.

He tries to escape, poor guy. But do I let God out to do His thing?

No, of course not.

I can be a stubborn, silly girl, so I ignore His calls and support signals and keep going alone while He sits locked up, unable to do the things I need Him to do.

I interfere and either block His power or waste precious time exhausting myself playing Jesus Junior, only to return to Him, begging Him to step in and save the day.

"Whenever you're done," I can hear Him calmly express in a calm, loving, unbothered voice.

Alright, alright, I give in.

It is time we take the limits off of God.

I know that it is tough to trust. In the past, we prayed and pleaded, but things didn't go our way. We've been hurt, abandoned, rejected, and disappointed.

We didn't want to risk that happening again so we stayed in charge of our lives, only coming to God when things were really bad, and we exhausted all our efforts and were desperate for a miracle.

Then, once things calmed down and the situation resolved or the storm passed, we put God back in His cage, thanked Him for His service, and returned to our self-driven lives.

But what if we took the limits off of God and let Him soar in our lives?

All the time.

I bet God's plans for us are even better than anything we can devise.

I bet even when bad things happen, God will show us His divine hand in all of it, and we will be stronger on the other side of the struggles,

I bet God will transform all the bad things into something beautiful.

I bet if we let God be God, unclench our control, and relax a little bit, we will be able to look around and enjoy the beautiful life we have been blessed with.

Let's expand our prayers beyond the limitations of our wise and specific instructions on how we would like God to perform in our lives.

Let's set God free and take the limits off of what He can and will do in our lives.

Together, our faith will grow as we watch and witness God's supernatural power.

No doubt - it will be something majestic to behold.

Matthew 17:20

He replied, "Because you have so little faith. Truly, I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you."

Ephesians 3:20-21

Now to Him who is able to [carry out His purpose and] do superabundantly more than all that we dare ask or think [infinitely beyond our greatest prayers, hopes, or dreams], according to His power that is at work within us, to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations forever and ever. Amen.

Jeremiah 32:17

Ah, Sovereign Lord, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for you.
