The Contentment of Enough

Contentment - what does it really mean?

Contrary to what our more, more more, mind tells us, it does not mean to settle or give up.

A lovely definition of contentment is happiness or satisfaction, often because you have everything you need.


Everything you need?

How is that possible? Don't you have to buy something? Don’t you have to fix something? Don’t you have to change something? You have so much to do before you can even think about being content!

What if you changed that thinking today? How would this feel:


I have everything I need. I am happy with things as they are. Regardless of what is happening around me, I am satisfied. Rather than wish all of this was different, I accept everything as it unfolds, even in life's messiness. 

I resist the temptation to buy something, change something, or long for something to be different to find contentment.  All that I have is enough, and I am happy, and satisfied. 

God has given me everything I need to experience the contentment of enough. I don’t need to do anything but rest in this awareness.

Ahh, now that feels better, doesn’t it?

Philippians 4:11-13

I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through him who gives me strength.
