Wound Repair

It's a weird title, I know, but stay with me.

We've been discussing the challenging yet necessary process of healing from past hurts.

This healing isn't a quick fix; it's more like removing a splinter, a painstaking process that requires patience and precision. Sometimes, we think we've got it all, but the pain is still there, and we just can't find all the remnants.

We know it's going to hurt like heck to dig and get that little bugger out, so we opt for letting it stay and cope with the chronic festering.

So, here we are, skipping along on this journey in blissful denial with this annoying splinter ache, going about our business.

We are used to the "it is what it is" pain; most days, we forget it's even there.

Then boom, another one of life's surprises hits us with a traumatic blow, and we find ourselves on the ground with our splintered wound reopened, oozing and throbbing all over again.

That old pain, the memories, the hurts, the dark voices all come back and try to pull us into the pit of despair. It's like we go back in time as we recall the origin of our wounds. The scenes play out in front of our eyes, and it feels like everything is happening to us all over again.

As we sit in the muck, writhing in our pain, God leans down, sits with us, and gently whispers that it is time to do some repairing.

Stop the bleed

While this traumatic blow triggers us and brings us back to that initial pain, the past is gone. We are here now, and we are safe.

God has taught us to apply the pressure of his unconditional love, grace, and mercy to the lies we believed that we are not enough, not loved, not forgiven, or not wanted. Repeat His words over and over until the voices of lies stop.

Keep applying that pressure. We are safe. We are loved. We are no longer bleeding. We are safe. We can repeat that as much as we need to. We are safe.

Remove foreign material

We are God's precious children, and it is time to remove things that no longer serve us. That might mean we have to say goodbye to people who treat us poorly or remove stuff we put in our bodies to cope or self-medicate. They aren't helping; they only cause bacteria and infections.

If we want to get this bugger out, we have to remove everything that doesn't belong.

Wash and irrigate

This is a tough one, but I know you can do it. Remember, God is right there with you.

You are going to have to feel the pain. You can't shove it down or deny it. You gotta feel it. Let those tears and ugly sobs flow out of you, and groan as loud as you need to. In your weeping, tell God all you are feeling—every emotion that comes up for you. Let it out.

Ain't nobody watching, so let the ugly crying commence and allow the tears to wash out the wound.

God's love is a torrent upon your soul to irrigate your wounds and ensure everything is clean and pure.

Protect

God is now going to seal up that wound with His love and protection. God wants you to receive His love to the very core of your being. His love is a healing balm that will soothe all your aches and pains. Lay back, rest, and let him wrap you up with his protection. He's got you covered.

Repeat these steps as often as necessary.

God will never leave you alone in this process. He wants to be with you and mend every wound as you continue on this journey.

God is our constant provider of repairs and healing. All we have to do is receive.

Now get some rest, stay hydrated, and know that God loves you, and so do I!

Psalms 147:3

He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.

Jeremiah 33:6

Nevertheless, I will bring health and healing to it; I will heal my people and will let them enjoy abundant peace and security.

1 Peter 2:24

He himself bore our sins in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed.

Romans 8:26

In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.
