Erica Squared with Special Guest ali Hoffman
Ok, this episode was a blast to make and I hope you love watching it as much we loved creating it.
I love making people laugh. I know when I’m having a day, laughter helps so much. Making people laugh is a wonderful way to bring kindness and light into the world so I thought hey, why not have an episode with one of the funniest friends I know – Ali Hoffman.
You know how you have those friends that whenever you hang out with them you just know you are going to laugh until you cry? Well, Ali is definitely one of those friends.
Not only is Ali my neighbor, she is also a comedic genius. We used to be in a Mom’s group together and our favorite activity was making all of our friends laugh. Parenting absolutely requires girlfriend time complete with LOTS of laughs!
By day, Ali is the Manager of Customer Service at a Software Development company. By night, her and husband enjoy their fun filled house full of pets and a fancy new bourbon bar / entertainment space they have been creating. Ali is determined we do a show about taste testing. They have three amazing daughters, two in college and one in high school. Never a dull moment for this family, that’s for sure!
So, after years of talking about collaborating on a show, Ali and I got together for some laughs to discuss some pressing topics. Not really pressing, but fun none the less.
During January, everyone is talking about New Year’s Resolutions, 80% of which end of failing. We thought we’d take a funny look at them and when the conversation turned to the “delicious” fruit of kumquats, I knew we might be able to bring you a little something different to think about.
My daughter works in the produce department at Sendiks, a local grocery store, when she is home from college. Sometimes, just to be THAT Mom, I go and pay her a visit and use silly voices to ask her questions like “Excuse me Ma’am, can you tell me where the kumquats are?” Oh, how she loves my visits.
You might be wondering, what the heck is a kumquat? Great question.
A kumquat is a citrus fruit that takes you an a journey no other fruit of it’s kind will. It’s kind of crunchy, kind of sour, kind of, well, interesting. Let’s just say it will take you a journey. You have to watch Ali try a kumquat for the first time. I have watched it so many times and cry laughing every time I do.
Finally, we touch on some of the corporate-isms we like to laugh about like the silly concept of the parking lot. The parking lot is a lovely tool used in meetings to place topics of discussion aside that no one wants to really discuss, now or ever.
All of this happens under the watchful of eye of our Jamie Fraser from the Outlander show on Starz. We are both big fans of the show and I know I felt better knowing he was there to ensure our safety.
