Erica Squared with Special Guest Dorene Michaels
This episode of The Funny Kind features another segment of Erica Squared with my special guest Dorene Michaels from WKLH, Milwaukee’s Hometown Rock (who was also generous enough to provide the mad voice skills for The Funny Kind Intro and outro) I love these segments where I sit and chat with someone who may or may not be named Erica for some laughs and deep talks.
So now that you have finished admiring those amazing outfits, let’s get back to Dorene!
Both of us are in a similar season of life – call us Empty Nesters I suppose. While there is great pride and joy in watching your children launch into adulthood and find their way in the world, this season can also bring up a lot of questions about what we should do next as we work through the new normal.
Dorene tells us what life has been like as a Mom of 3 who have “flown the nest” and how she felt a bit funky during the transition. It’s understandable of course, but I appreciated her honesty as she shared how she reacted to that change and found herself withdrawing rather than doing all the exciting things she thought she would be doing.
She then shares an idea that came to her to try something new every day in 2023 that she’s calling #dorenediscovers and how that made all the difference to help her connect with others and defunk.
Dorene has done some fun things already, including trying a kumquat inspired by the last episode of The Funny Kind. (See her joyful face on Wed the 25th?)
Be sure to follow and support Dorene on here journey during #dorenediscovers

I also wanted to give a shout out to Andrew and Amy at D’Vine in Oak Creek Wisconsin. If you haven’t been there yet, check it out! It’s a great place to connect with friends and have some cocktails and fun!
I hope the episode gives you some inspiration! I also want to say that while sometimes we can pull ourselves out of a funk, there may be times when we need more help. Now more than ever, there are resources to help you. There are so many good resources out there!
Remember, YOU ARE NOT ALONE
