Escape

The word escape gets such a bad rap sometimes. It's as if we are trying to avoid something because we can't hack it and blame ourselves for being unable to withstand the pressure.

But I say fooey to all that.

There are times when circumstances call for a clean getaway so we can regain our composure and think clearly.

I'm not talking about the extreme of running away from it all, finding a secluded beachfront house far away from civilization, and permanently posting an "out of office" message on all communications.

Though that sure does sound awesome.

I was looking at one of the definitions of escape: "to slip away from pursuit or peril; avoid capture, punishment, or any threatened evil."

When you put it that way, escaping seems like a wise idea to me.

Sometimes, you must slip away without notice to get your wits about you.

In the quiet, away from all the noise, pressure, and stress, you can connect with God and get back on track.

Escaping can free us to find the insights into how to reengage with power and wisdom.

There have been times when I felt peril surrounding me, and the attacks were coming in hot.

Too often, I would lean into all of it, overreact, and make things worse.

But when I had the discipline to pause, use the skills of NBAK, and nestle into God's loving arms, I could see things clearer and decide with more precision and peace.

So hey, if you are feeling overwhelmed or pursued by the pressure closing in on all sides, a little escape might be just the thing you need.

Who's ready to become an escape artist?

Let's GOOOOOOOOOO!

Matthew 14: 22-23

Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowd. After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. Later that night, he was there alone,

Mark 6:31

Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, "Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest."

Psalm 107: 6-9

Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress. He led them by a straight way to a city where they could settle. Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for mankind, for he satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things.
