Love's Got You Covered

Oops, you did it again.

You thought you were past this and had laid it down for good.

And yet. You made that same old mistake again. 

Those darn habits and patterns are hard to break; I get it. 

Once again, those all too familiar words start whirling around:

"You thought you surrendered this, and it was gone for good; I guess that was a joke."

"You will never be free of this. Just accept it."

"You are weak and undisciplined; shame on you."

Yikes. 

Let's let the self-loathing and overthinking shame spiral take a break for just a minute, shall we?

Give yourself some mercy. 

Were you sad? Were you scared? Were you lonely?

I understand why you may have chosen something you have turned to for years to seek relief and comfort. Go easy on yourself. 

Want some good news?

God's love has you covered, my sweet human. Especially when you trip and fall and make the same mistakes again. 

Forgive yourself. Ask for forgiveness. 

And. Then. Move. On.

Next time, you can choose something different.  

Can you hear the loving voice of God whispering something different and wonderful that replaces that old, repetitive nonsense that keeps you stuck?  

Let this truth sink in:

"I love you, my child. You are precious to me, and I know you were hurting. I forgive you, and I love you. My love is covering you, sheltering you. Remember that I can bring you the comfort and relief that you search for in times of trouble. Seek and you shall find. Look up; I am here with you, always."

God loves you, and so do I!

Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.

Proverbs 17:9

Whoever would foster love covers over an offense, but whoever repeats the matter separates close friends.

Luke 11:9
