Plasticity

Man, we sure can be stubborn little stinkers sometimes - or maybe it’s just me.

We know God is tapping us on the shoulder, calling our names, and beckoning us to return to Him and follow His purpose for our lives.

But we stand firm in our defiance, rigid even, stoically stuck in our statuesque refusal to change.

We are hardened by this world's hurts, pains, disappointments, and fears and have grown accustomed to our habits and patterns that soothe and numb us.

Making the changes God asks of us requires courage and trust—two things we are running short on.

But, if we are honest, we are getting pretty stiff and achy standing here and know we can't stay like this forever.

Perhaps now is the time to loosen up and trust God to do some molding and reforming.

I imagine us standing together - turning from hard stone to malleable gooey goodness.

I came across the word "plasticity," and the definitions hit this concept perfectly:

  • having the capacity to be molded or altered

  • the ability to retain a shape made by pressure.

Plasticity reminds me of these Mold-a-rama wax machines at the zoo, where you can watch little animals form out of wax right before your eyes.

My kids loved collecting them, and, oh man, I used to love the smell of those things (I know, I'm weird).

Each machine had a different animal design—a zebra, a lion, a gorilla—a purpose unique to itself.

We are the same way.

God created us with unique designs and formed us with such precision.

He knows how to remold us to get us back to that perfect design so that we can live our best lives.

I know it's hard to trust, let go of control, and be vulnerable and willing to change.

But think about how far you have come already! You have built up so much resilience and have more courage than you realize- I know you can do this!

Let's become pliable so God can make some alterations and improvements.

A little here, a little there, some tweaking over here.

Relax and let God show you what He can do through you.

That didn't hurt too much now, did it?

You are looking good with all that gooey goodness shining all around!

Isaiah 64:8

Yet, O Lord, You are our Father; We are the clay, and You our Potter, And we all are the work of Your hand.

2 Timothy 3:16

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

2 Corinthians 3: 16-18

But whenever anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord's glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.
