Grateful
It’s March and Spring has sprung here in Wisconsin. As I write this, the sun is shining and the kids are out playing in the neighborhood. Midwesterners are conditioned to take advantage of these days as it could snow in a matter of minutes so ya never know. I am speaking words of encouragement to my daffodils so they fight to withstand the wintery mix that will no doubt appear once more to fight their approaching resurgence. You can do this Daffodils, I believe in you.
Anyhoo, in addition to the excitement of the blooming and resurgence of color in March, this time of year is a time to focus on MS Awareness. March 12-18 is MS Awareness Week and across the US, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society works hard to promote the programs, support, research and advocacy initiatives that are happening to serve those living with or affected by MS. The goal of the society is simple, A World Without MS.
This is a cause that is near and dear to me as my Mother, Jill, lived with MS for over 35 years. She was diagnosed when I was just 3 and my sister was 10. It was difficult having a Mom with a disability, that goes without saying. But as crappy as it was, I learned a lot about the power of resilience, perseverance and having support systems. My Mom passed away 11 years ago and her spirt of sass and humor live on within me, my sister and our children.
To honor her, this year was the 2nd annual BIG Hair FUNdraiser . The event was held at the Blue Bar and Lounge at The Pfister Hotel. Thanks to The Marcus Corporation for their generous support of this event!
We were able to raise over $5,300, nearly double what we raised last year!
I could write all about this fun night, but even better, check out this video to learn more about the event and some of the services available from the National Multiple Sclerosis Society then come back and read more about how you can help! I am so grateful to all those who participated, donated and supported!
How cool was that hey? There really are so many kind and generous people in the world. Some with bigger hair than others, but that doesn’t really matter. Here are some fun pictures to share :)
I am so grateful for:
Everyone that participated, donated and helped out with our 2nd Annual Big Hair FUNdraiser (if you haven’t donated yet, there’s still time!)
Erica Smith at Light the Hoan for lighting up the Hoan Bridge and helping to connect with other buildings and amazing photographers in our city
The amazing staff at the Wisconsin Chapter of the MS Society for all that you do for those living with or affected by Multiple Sclerosis in Wisconsin
The Board of Trustees of the Wisconsin Chapter who dedicate so much time, talent and treasure to make a difference with special thanks to Betsy Hufford, Katrina Cravy and Matt Pazaras for their dedication to this event
Aqua Net - making big hair a reality for decades
All of the team at The Pfister Hotel but special shout outs to Donna Basterash and BD Greer
